Grimston ladies defeat their counterparts from Bircham to remain undefeated




Grimston Ladies travelled to Bircham Cricket Club on Tuesday night for their Softball League fixture.

The visitors aimed to continue their unbeaten 2025 run, while Bircham came off a win against Denver CC.

Captain Bev Garnett won the toss and elected to field, choosing to open the bowling with Maria Lambert.

Bircham’s opening batters were Ami Monahan-Fairlee and H. Fletcher, who scored an impressive 26 runs as part of their partnership.

C. Figura and G. Voutt also impressed, scoring 13 runs and 12 runs respectively.

The standout bowler was Britt Hay, who took three wickets from her four overs, and Elaine Oldroyd put in a fantastic all-round performance.

Bircham scored 140 runs and lost six wickets, giving them a net score of 310.

Grimston began their innings with Hay and debutant Cheryl Ironside, who put on 25 runs.

Kath Johnson was the standout batter, scoring 21 off 13 balls at a strike rate of 161.

With the match in the balance, Garnett and Crystal Pegg faced the final five overs against Voutt and Fletcher.

Pegg, needing only to survive the final three balls, held her nerve to see Grimston home with 316 runs.

Captain Garnett said: “It was a great performance. We’re undefeated in our last few games. I’m so proud of the team—everyone worked hard in a close match.
