Grimston Ladies welcome North Runcton Rockets for first-ever home league match

Grimston Cricket Club Ladies welcomed North Runcton Rockets for their first-ever home league match, fresh on the heels of an opening day draw away to Bircham.

Put in to bat, Grimston opened with the powerful combination of L Shepherdly and S White - with Shepherdly scoring a joint-top seven runs.

Next in was captain C Nichols and the injured Crystal Pegg, called up as a last-minute replacement. Both scored with aplomb, Pegg making light work of the bowling despite playing with a broken finger. The final two pairs were H Rudd and E Oldroyd, and Dougie and B Garnett.

Grimston finished their innings at 78/8, a net score of 238.

With a modest total to chase, North Runcton showed their experience and ran out comfortable winners with a net score of 274. B Garnett was the top performer with the ball for Grimston, taking two wickets from her four overs, but the Honeypatch Flowers Player of the Match went to Dougie for a dominant display in the field with two catches and several superb stops.

Captain Nichols was focused on the progress her side have made in their first two matches: "The girls did great today, I couldn't be prouder. Runcton are a great side and a lovely bunch, there is no shame in losing to such a strong side. We're looking forward to visiting them for the away fixture.”
