Heacham boss David Griggs delighted with his ‘fantastic five’ strike options
Most managers crave to have one prolific goalscorer in their squad – but Thurlow Nunn First Division North leaders Heacham are blessed by having five such players.
During their run of recent promotions, the Magpies have had the likes of Jack Defty, John Flanagan and Nathan Davies terrorising defences for fun.
Both Flanagan and Davies remain at the helm and Jack Frohawk arrived at the Heacham Sports Field in the summer, but youngsters Luke Gray and Fletcher Toll are the latest additions to the club's embarrassment of riches up top.
The Magpies were without the services of Davies for the club's 4-1 victory over AFC Sudbury Reserves on Saturday, but both Gray and Toll stepped up to the plate by scoring two goals each in a game that also saw Lewis Gibson make his debut from the bench.
Griggs admitted after Saturday's latest victory that he has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal when it comes to attacking players.
"We've got some great attacking players at the club and it's about trying to keep them all happy, that's the hardest thing," he admitted.
"Luke (Gray) has done well the last two games and we've been managing him a little bit because last season and the one before he was quite injury prone.
"Today was his time to be given a start as Fletcher (Toll) had played in almost every game so far, so we left him on the bench and he will start at Holbeach on Wednesday.
"We scored four goals today and that was without Nathan (Davies) and perhaps the only criticism going into half-time is that we hadn't been more ruthless.
"Fletcher could have had a hat-trick in 13 minutes after coming on today. It just shows goes to show the strength we've got up top and we haven't even spoken about John Flanagan."
Heacham's fabulous five have been responsible for scoring 20 of the club's 22 goals this campaign with Royce Rawlings and Ben Coe registering the other two.
Griggs also praised the contribution of Frohawk, saying: "I thought Jack was outstanding today, the way he worked their left-back through the game and he's done more than enough to put himself in the frame again for Wednesday.
"It's a nice headache to have as a manager when you've got five substitutes on the bench who think they should all be starting. There's no weak link in the squad."
Next up for the Magpies is a midweek trip to Holbeach where both Matty Goss and Davies are in contention to make a return, while Nathan Dawes is also edging closer to a comeback.
