King's Lynn Town 's injury woes continued as they suffered their second National League defeat on their travels this season.

The Linnets were only able to name two players on the bench as they were undone by a goal in either half by last season's play-off finalists in the west country.

Sinclair Armstrong – signed on loan from Championship outfit Queen's Park Rangers – opened the scoring four minutes before the break before Joe Lewis doubled Torquay's lead 13 minutes from time.

Recent signing Josh Barrett and striker Joe Taylor were the latest players to join Lynn's ever-growing casualty list as they missed the clash in Devon with hamstring injuries.

The pair joined Pierce Bird, Dean Bowry, Juunior Morias and Cameron King on the treatment table to leave

manager Ian Culverhouse with only 13 fit players to choose from.

The fit-again Tyler Denton, Brett McGavin and Malachi Linton were all brought into the side to face the Gulls as Lynn looked to continue their impressive form on their travels this season.

Armstrong gave Lynn notice of his abilities early on as he held off the attentions of Kyle Callan-McFadden and forced Paul Jones into a save down to his right in the third minute.

Despite being pinned in their own half for much of the opening 25 minutes, Lynn gradually grew into the game as the half wore on.

Both Ross Barrows and Gold Omotayo were unable to get on the end of Ethan Coleman's header across the face of goal following an Aaron Jones cross from the right while Michael Clunan saw his long-range effort clip the outside of Shaun MacDonald's right post.

Four minutes before the break Lynn failed to deal with a long throw from Dean Moxey and the dangerous Armstrong rifled the ball into the back of the net from just inside the box.

Midfielder Brett McGavin looked the most likely source of an equaliser, seeing his free-kick flash across the face of goal before testing MacDonald from long-range.

Torquay's Klaidi Lolos then went on a mazy run and, with a player either side of him, he decided to shoot and saw his effort blocked by Barrows.

Armstrong saw his shot take a deflection off the foot of Callan-McFadden and onto the woodwork as the Gulls stepped up the pressure in the final 20 minutes.

The second goal arrived after 77 minutes as Joe Lewis poked home from close range after a goalmouth scramble in the Lynn box.

Visiting goalkeeper Jones was at full-stretch to keep out an effort from Armstrong before Keelan O'Connell's shot was deflected behind for a corner as Lynn's goal came under late siege.
