King’s Lynn Ladies end 18-month wait for a win with a 2-1 victory over Stevenage Development in Eastern Region Women's Football League

King's Lynn Town Ladies have finally ended their miserable run of 40 successive league defeats.

They recorded their first league win in Division One North of the Eastern Region Women's Football League by defeating Stevenage Development 2-1 on Sunday.

It was their first win on the pitch for 18 months - the last one before Sunday coming back in April 2023 against Bowers and Pitsea Ladies.

There were joyous scenes between players and coaching staff on the final whistle as the team recorded a much overdue success.

Manager April Kitchen said: “I am immensely proud of the girls today for their performance out on the pitch.

"Not only did we get the win that we’ve been working hard towards in training, the girls also showed nothing but determination and dedication to fulfil our game plan from start to finish and that ultimately won us the game.

"The hard work will continue & I will continue to guide the girls in the right direction, both as individual players and as a team.

"I am so proud of every single one of the girls for their commitment on and off the pitch, again as individuals and as a team. Trust the process of the rebuild.”

The ladies travel down to Hertfordshire and, despite a tough start to the season, now finally have something to show for all of their hard work since the summer.

Lynn's goals came from Gabrielle Cobb with a free-kick into the top right corner and a long-range effort from Poppy Clapson.

The Linnets named goalkeeper Anna Hammond as their player-of-the-match.

The win lifts Lynn off the bottom of the table ahead of a trip to Mulbarton Wanderers Ladies in the County Cup on Sunday.
