Lynn youngsters claim a number of year group prizes at Glebe School Tri
Junior members from Lynn Triathlon Club proved that the sport isn’t just for adults at the weekend’s Glebe School Tri, where they displayed great promise for the future.
The event followed the TriStar series format where different ages raced different distances, from a 50m/800m/600m swim/bike/run for eight-year-olds to 200m/2km/1.6km for 12 to 13 year-olds.
Thomas Elsdon (Year 3) and Lola (Year 5) were both competing in their first solo triathlon, but this failed to deter them as they both won their age groups.
Sam Doughty and Olivia Doig were then both racing as Year 6s, and they also both won their categories.
Things really heated up for the combined Year 7/8 race, with Esmie Kidman first in the water followed by Andrea Campbell and Sophie Doig.
Kidman set a blistering pace in the pool and was never really challenged for the age group win.
Doig almost caught Campbell going into turn one, but Campbell’s transitions and bike returned them to level before Doig finally passed her towards the end of the run and held on for the sprint finish, taking second in the same category.
They were joined by West Norfolk Swimming Club member Eloise Collins who also enjoyed her first ever tri.
Over in Skegness, slightly older kids Warren King and Debbie James were flying the flag for Lynn Triathlon Club in a 400m/18km/5km sprint race.
First home was King in a superb 1hr06min (9min14/35min33/18min45).
Meanwhile, James finished third in her age group in 1hr14min (9min30/38min22/23min22) despite a slight detour on the bike.
