Ipswich Witches skipper hails impact of former Lynn Stars favourite Jason Crump
Visiting Ipswich skipper Danny King hailed the impact of former King’s Lynn Stars legend Jason Crump who will ride for the Witches when the arch-rivals meet on Monday.
King – plus Lynn captain Lewis Kerr, Rising Star Ryan Kinsley and manager Peter Schroeck – were all speaking at a Eurosport Press Day Webinar on Wednesday, where Eurosport presenter Nigel Pearson revealed tickets for the Adrian Flux Arena derby clash were half sold-out already just an hour and a half after going on sale.
Three-times world title winner Crump rode for Lynn between 2000-01 and is the only rider lining up in this year’s Premiership who is a current or former world champion.
Lynn fans probably never expected to see the Australian again, but he began a comeback last year and has no doubt helped to sell tickets for the Saddlebow Road track derby.
King said of 45-year-old Crump: “Just his experience alone is going to bring so much, certainly for the younger riders in the team.
“The way the team’s been built, it’s very much youth and experience. We’re not 100 per cent sure what Jason’s going to do yet but I believe he’s going to be a very consistent rider.
“But it’s what he brings to the rest of the team, really, so I’m certainly looking forward to it.”
The Foxhall stadium skipper added: “It’s always an exciting meeting when Ipswich race at King’s Lynn and I don’t expect it to be any different on Monday.
“We’re going there to win and nothing else.”
Kerr countered the confident predictions of King and Ipswich promoter Chris Louis by saying: “It’s got to be a win; it’s a massive meeting for us. There’s a lot of pressure there but we’ll enjoy it and hopefully come out on top.”
Captains, Rising Stars and managers from all Premiership sides lined up in the Peter Craven Suite at Belle Vue’s National Speedway Stadium in a promotional effort on Wednesday to launch the 2021 season.
