King's Lynn speedway boss plans 2020 return to work after health scare
King's Lynn Poultec Stars boss Dale Allitt has revealed he aims to be back in the job next season following a health scare.
Allitt, who led the Stars to finish top of the Premiership in 2018, was a welcome visitor to the Adrian Flux Arena for tonight's meeting with the Ipswich Witches.
And he confirmed he intends to resume his usual duties – but not until next year.
He said in the programme for the eagerly-awaited meeting: “My health situation has been well documented but maybe not the full details.
“In many ways it’s quite simple – it was an infection of the fluid around the brain which caused some pretty major issues, resulting in me not only being able to take on my speedway duties but also other work as well.
“But I’m delighted there’s been a lot of improvement, a lot of hard work to get to where we are today with speech in particular because that was affected quite badly.
“It’s still going to be three to six months even now before I am back to being more or less 100 per cent.
“I have good days and bad days and I’ve only managed to see a couple of meetings up until tonight, one of which was at Peterborough with King’s Lynn.
“I’d love to be further involved but at the moment it’s a case of not being able to, certainly not on a regular basis and I think it’s best for the club and to everyone if I don’t come back properly at all this year.”
He added: “In February the plan was to come back at some point but we didn’t know how serious things were back then and now I just need to take each day or week as they come and wait to get the all-clear and the thumbs up to start getting back into my normal routine.
“It is my full intention to be back in my usual capacities in 2020 and in the meantime I will be here whenever health permits to assist in whatever role I can within the club.
“Peter (Schroeck) is doing a great job as team manager. I’m always at the end of the phone is he wishes to bounce any ideas off me and the same goes for the riders.
“It’s probably the first time in 13 years that I’ve not had an active role in the sport.”
