King’s Lynn Stars speedway skipper Robert Lambert finished a strong third in the opening round of the World Under-21 Final in Lublin on Saturday.

Great Britain star Lambert scored 14 points despite a crash in Heat 16, to end up three behind event winner Gleb Chugunov as the Russian took the honours.

Defending champion Bartosz Smektala finished second although is a point behind Lambert overall, whilst Dominik Kubera is level with Chugunov on 17 despite missing out in the final.

Former winner Maksym Drabik scored a 15-point maximum in the qualifiers but failed to reach the final, meaning the top five riders are covered by just four points ahead of the second round in Germany in September.

Last night, the Stars were due to host Premiership league leaders the Belle Vue Aces at the Adrian Flux Arena before travelling to Swindon in the Supporters’ Cup on Thursday night.

Lynn’s Erik Riss is expected to return from injury next week.
