New style Division 1 opens with derby as CSKA First beat their Reserves 3-0
Walker Construction Lynn & District Sunday League by Will Jones
The new style Division 1 opened with a local derby with CSKA First beating CSKA Reserves 3-0.
With both teams in a run of good form, it was always going to be an exciting game full of some quality football, played in a good spirit and a good advert for Sunday football. Despite strong resistance, CSKA scorers were Keiron Hamilton, Max Mattless and Arron McKenna.
DIVISION 2
West Lynn Athletic, current league leaders, entertained West Winch William Burt looking for their second win.
Winch took the points in this very closely contested division. Goals from Nathan Trundle, Josh Simpson and Liam Starr were enough at the final whistle for a 2-3 victory. In reply, goals from Ash Smith and Sam Garrod were not enough for West Lynn Athletic.
In the other divisional game, Southery ASA travelled to Ingoldisthorpe and despite an early Ingoldisthorpe goal scored by Ashley Prosper and strong first half pressure, Southery managed to weather the storm and took an early 1-2 lead in the second half with goals from Harry Morton and Terry Whitwell.
With chances at both ends, it was a Ben English long range shot that found the back of the net for the equaliser. Despite an equal second half, it was a second Prosper goal and a low Liam Greenacre drive that won the game for Ingoldisthorpe 4-2.
LEAGUE CUP ROUND 1
Two of the favourites met in the preliminary round as County Cup hopefuls Chilvers faced England’s Hope.
In a hard-fought game with some excellent football, it was England’s Hope who won 2-3 despite a Danny Jezeph double for Chilvers.
Goals from Dale Parnell and a brace from Dylan Petit secured a quarter-final place for England’s Hope against the winner of Shouldham and CSKA First.
CAMBS CHALLENGE CUP ROUND 3
The Woodman’s Cottage won 6-2 (a hat-trick from Ajay Jolly, Sam Moses, Martin Chapman and Johnny Johnson) at Fenland Police.
