Linnets settle for draw in second successive Saturday at Trico Stadium
Redditch United 1 King’s Lynn Town 1
Not for the first time this season, missed chances cost King’s Lynn Town an opportunity to bag all three points.
The Linnets had to settle for a draw for the second successive Saturday at the Trico Stadium.
Linnets skipper Michael Clunan had fired the visitors ahead shortly after the half-hour mark but they failed to capitalise on their general dominance which allowed substitute Mitchell Piggon to grab an equaliser for the home side who were outplayed for long periods.
Boss Ian Culverhouse shuffled his Lynn pack, seeing a return to action from injury for Aaron Jones at the expense of Jordan Richards.
There were also starts for Matt Castellan and Craig Parker, meaning bench spots for Ryan Hawkins and Chris Henderson.
Jones was quickly into the action, with Parker inches away from connecting with his centre before the full-back then teed up Adam Marriott, who worked Reece Francis in the home goal.
The Redditch shot-stopper denied the same player with a low diving save, turning the ball onto his post, with the danger being cleared by a home defender.
Ryan Jarvis was then unlucky as his goal-bound effort was blocked by a mass home defence.
As Town lay siege to the home goal it came as no surprise when the visitors took a deserved lead through Clunan, who expertly fired the ball home through a crowded penalty area.
Another flowing Lynn move saw Marriott race into the box, only to be denied by a superb blocked save from Francis.
Parker drilled a low effort wide shortly after the restart which seemed to spur the hosts into life as Shaqille Leachman-Whittingham saw an effort defect into Alex Street’s side netting and Piggon shot wide.
The game then reverted to a familiar pattern with the Linnets creating further chances for Frazer Blake-Tracy and Hawkins whose efforts in turn were blocked and inches wide of their intended targets.
Just as goalkeeper Francis was announced as the home man-of-the-match, Piggon collected the ball six yards out and sent a shot which trickled past Street and into the net to give the hosts a draw.
