King's Lynn Town sweep aside Histon in first match since manager's departure
FA Cup first qualifying round replay
King's Lynn Town 7
King's Lynn Town delivered an emphatic response to the weekend sacking of manager Simon Clark by easing past Histon in their FA Cup replay this evening.
The Linnets were six goals to the good before half-time, thanks to a Ryan Hawkins hat-trick, a brace from Toby Hilliard and a Craig Parker strike.
Nathen Stewart then added a seventh late on as Lynn booked a meeting with Stafford Rangers in the second qualifying round at the Walks on Saturday week.
Saturday's 2-2 draw at the Walks wasn't enough to save Clark from the axe after a poor start to the new campaign.
But, with Neil Fryatt and Robbie Back in temporary charge, the Lynn fans who made the short journey to Cambridgeshire soon had their nerves settled by Hawkins' third minute opener.
And, with a trip to Halesowen in the league next on the agenda for the Linnets at the weekend, the result may give chairman Stephen Cleeve some breathing space in his search for a new permanent boss.
