Lynn Triathlon Club member Matthew Allan takes on twisty, technical and hilly course in scorching heat

Representing Great Britain, Matthew Allan travelled to Pontevedra, in Spain where he was faced with a twisty, technical and hilly course in scorching heat.

This made the initial 10km run and 40km cycle ride particularly tough, but Allan moved up into 15th overall for his age group over the final 5km run, and was third GB athlete to qualify for next year’s world championships.

His finishing time was 2hrs 07 (34min 58/1hr 10/19min 40).

Slightly closer to home and with very different weather to contend with, eight members were at Yarmouth at the East Coast Super Sprint triathlon with support from their coach.

The 250m pool swim, 16km bike and 3km run signalled the start of the triathlon season, and first home for the club was Arthur Seargent in 54min 07s (3 rd AG), followed by Jemma Redhead in 57min 38 who won her age group thanks to the fastest bike split within the club.

David Hicks was next home in 58min 15, just ahead of Debbie James, finishing her first Tri in 58min 55 (third in age group) and Andre Delgado in 59min 12.

Emma Cuthell was the club’s fastest runner and came fourth in her AG with 1hr01. Philip Yates finished his first Tri in 1hr 06, just ahead of Alice Page who competed in her first senior event and won her 15-16 age group in 1hr 07, also taking the crown for the fastest swimmer from the club.

Jenna Gotts was in action at the weekend too, opening her race season with a cheeky little sprint tri in Lincoln.

Gotts completed the 400m pool swim in 10min 5, the 23km bike in 47min 32 and the final 5km in 29min 16, to give her a finish time of 1hr 31min.

For those not racing, there was a club duathlon/brick training session around Sandringham to keep them amused.

It was a fine start to the season for the club, who host their own event in Hunstanton on May 19.
