WNSC captain swims in European Deaf Swimming Championships
West Norfolk Swimming Club athlete Oliver Kenny was in record-breaking form when representing Great Britain in the pool this week in Lublin, Poland.
Kenny was taking part in the 12th European Deaf Swimming Championships.
Ollie, the current WNSC Boys captain, has been selected as one of the 21-strong Great Britain Deaf Swimming team for the competition which began on Monday and finishes tomorrow (Saturday).
Kenny was the first member of the GB team to compete, getting things started in style on Monday with the 100m backstroke.
The 21 year-old qualified in sixth place for the final, and went on to finish fourth, setting a new British record of 1:01:14, breaking his own previous one.
Ollie holds Great Britain Deaf Swimming records across 50m, 100m and 200m distances in both long course (50m pool) and short course (25m pool) competitions, as well as the 50m long course butterfly record.
The pool ace competed individually on Tuesday in the 100m butterfly, where he came ninth in the heats and eighth in the final.
Later that day he finished third in the 200m individual medley heats and seventh in the final.
On Wednesday he took part in the 200m Backstroke where a strong fourth spot qualified him for the evening final, where another fourth place meant he just missed out on a medal; and today (Friday) Kenny will compete in the 50m backstroke.
Kenny also on Tuesday raced in the 4 x 100m mixed medley team relay where Great Britain comfortably qualified for the final where they just missed a medal by coming fourth.
He will also race in the 4x100m men’s team medley relay today.
As the event approached its midway point, the medal table was dominated by the trio of the Russian Federation (24 gold, silver and bronze), the Ukraine and host nation Poland. Great Britain had so far won a solitary bronze.
