Downham Stow Ladies beaten by Hethersett and Tas Ladies in Norfolk hardball final

Downham Stow CC finished their season off this weekend on a high.

While the men were winning promotion to the East Anglian Premier League, the ladies played in their final game at Hethersett and Tas Ladies in the Norfolk hardball final.

Downham Stow Ladies, pictured on the right, won the toss and opted to field first.

Molly Pybus was her usual dependable self, bowling the dangerous Veera Davey with her first ball (three overs for seven).

Freya Matthew took the next two wickets, both leg-before-wicket, bowling three overs for 17.

Despite a strong performance in the field unfortunately the Downham Stow bowling wasn't quite as consistent as usual and the target of 116 was a little higher than the DS girls hoped.

In reply, the DSCC openers both batted well with Esther Broad reaching 19 before being caught and Maya Flitney bowled on 20. Quick scoring Molly P’s 10 off nine balls and with Ellen Kerbey scoring 11 off six, coming in at number six it looked as if the total could be in reach.

The team fell 12 runs short with their run chase. Congratulations to Hethersett and TAS on their victory.
