Ryston Runners finish second in Southern Athletics League match at Lynnsport
Ryston Runners put some significant absences behind them to finish second in their home Southern Athletics League match at Lynnsport on Saturday.
The gaps were ably-filled by courageous members trying events for the first time against three clubs higher in the league table.
There were some brilliant performances throughout the day, with Lauren Moyse breaking the long-standing under-17 girls’ club high jump record with a leap of 1.60m – which was good enough for second place.
She also finished second in the long jump with 5.04m and third in the 100m (13.6).
Naomi Darkins and Alice White took second places in the A and B string in sprint hurdles.
Darkins also took second in the A string pole vault with Rebecca Tuff taking the win in the B string.
White also finished second in the B string long jump with a leap of 3.78m and third in the A string triple with 8.30m.
Thea Howlett was third in the 200m and 400m, running 61.2 secs in her first-ever 400m race.
Holly Chen was third in the B string 200m and second in the B shot.
Rosie Booth ran 5.28 in the 1500m for third in the A string, Maisie Loram was third in the B string 1500m with a run of 6.04 and Katy Moyle finished second in the B string steeplechase.
In the women’s 5000m, both athletes were running their first track race, with Judith Berry fourth in 24.30 and Emma Wilding second in the B string with 28.06.
Marlene Simmonds and Gaye Clarke played their part, with Simmonds taking second in the B string discus with a throw of 15.82m and Clarke second in the B string javelin with 14.66m.
Tuff threw 20.70m for second in the A string.
In the men’s competition, Adam Matthews ran a PB of 9.29 for second in the B string 3000m, while James O’Neill was second in the A string, as well as taking the same spot in the 800m and 1500m.
Ben Keeley was second in the B string 800m and 1500m, taking 10 seconds off his 1500m PB, clocking 4.37.
Rob Simmonds claimed wins in the B string 110m and 400m hurdles, hammer (22.29m), and shot (9.07m) and was second in the A string pole vault (2.95m) and javelin.
Andy Simmons won the A string hammer (34.42m) and was second in the 400 hurdles and second B string in the 400m and discus.
Dan Yellop was second in the shot with 9.81m as well as finishing third in 100m and 200m.
Daniel Wright dipped under 12 seconds in 100m (11.9) for third in the B string.
Gareth Hunt was second in the high jump with 1.68m, and recorded 5.86m in the long jump.
Ian Hogarth was third in the B-string pole vault, whilst his clubmate, Martin Heeley, took second place in the B string javelin with a throw of 33.57m.
n On Sunday, four Ryston Juniors took part in the Athletics Norfolk Quad Kids event at Thetford.
Charley Wheatley was sixth in the Year 4/5 girls, with her best display a throw of 23m in the vortex howler, which earned her third place.
In the same age group, Evie Clayton and Mollie Skerritt finished 18th and 20th in the 80m, both running 13.7 secs.
In the Year 6/7 girls, Clarice Cavill was 11th in the long jump with a leap of 3.37m.
