King’s Lynn are very much the hunted in National League North says boss ahead of Farsley Celtic trip

King's Lynn Town will have to brace themselves for the toughest game of their lives every time they step out on the pitch this season.

That's the view of Linnets boss Mark Hughes as he prepares his side for tomorrow's trip to Farsley Celtic in the National League North.

Lynn remain very much the hunted after finishing as runners-up in the league last term and Hughes isn't expecting it to get any easier now the club is up and running with a win under their belts.

Speaking after the 2-1 victory at Alfreton on Bank Holiday Monday, Hughes said: "We certainly want to keep going forwards and that's the benefit of being full-time because we've got time to analyse it and we've got time to train.

"I think Paul Jones said after the game on Saturday, people want to beat us because of where we finished last year.

"Chorley really wanted to beat us because what happened against them last season, so the lads have to take that on board."

After Saturday's defeat against The Magpies, the Lynn boss called his squad in for an impromptu training session less than 24 hours later.

"I had lads turning up with their kids as it was a last-minute decision," said Hughes.

"It just goes to show the team spirit in there that we are building and in a way now it's my team as we've got that win and we've got new players on the pitch.

"I'm really, really happy for the players, for the staff and for the fans. We got back in yesterday, back on the horse, and we go again.

“I’m delighted for myself for everybody, but especially for the fans here.

"We mentioned it that when we're playing well, the crowds go up and it’s so important that we make this place a really tough place to come to because it's a tough place to get to, so we know the journeys people have and we’ve got to start games well.

“Hopefully this is a real stepping stone for something great.”

The Linnets have never lacked leadership on the pitch and Hughes admitted he has this in abundance within his squad.

"Kyle (Callan-McFadden) is a captain, leader. Manny (Emmanuel Oke) is a tremendous athlete and gets tight to people. He can also play in midfield and was nearly playing there today.

"Josh Coulson is a leader and we've still got Adam Crowther to come back in, so I've got a headache there.

"They'll be really disappointed with the penalty, but I'm happy they didn't score from open play because they were dangerous today and.

"The back three and the wing backs all had their part in keeping a clean sheet from open play."

Having finished in 20th place in the table last season, Farsley Celtic might be considered one of the early season surprises with just one defeat in their first six games.

The Celt Army completed the double over Lynn last season and Hughes will be reminding the players of that in his team talk before the game.
