King’s Lynn boss ‘brushes off’ financial fears as he chases new recruits for his National League North squad
Adam Lakeland has brushed off questions about the club's financial issues as he looks to strengthen his squad this week.
The King's Lynn Town boss hopes to bring in one, possibly two, players into his squad as they continue their fight against relegation.
As Lynn kept their first clean sheet under Lakeland's guidance during a 0-0 draw against Warrington at the weekend, concerns were growing after owner Stephen Cleeve revealed that he needed £300,000 to fund the club for the remainder of the season.
Despite these issues, Lakeland remains focused on the job on hand at The Walks, saying: “I've got a big enough job on my hands managing the team and the players.
“What's going on off the field, I'll just leave that to the chairman. He's been doing it for long enough now and he's done it pretty well from what I can see.
"I speak to him every day so I'm sure he'll come up with some solution as he has done in the past.”
Lakeland welcomed Cleeve's honesty on the situation.
“I think it's good for me that he's put that out because it it's tough for all football clubs,” he said.
“When you inherit a situation where you've got a lot of players and maybe quite a lot of young lads who aren't ready that are eating into your budget and you're considerably over budget.
"It's going to put pressure on any football club, any chairman. Obviously it then puts pressure on and makes things difficult for me as well, but I'm not one for making excuses.
“I knew what I was coming into, it is what it is. We’ve just got to keep working hard. We've got a few that we're trying to get in.
"I think there'll be one coming in on Tuesday on loan. We're trying to get a couple of permanents in if we can, but it's not easy.
“I think maybe one or two of them are looking at our current league position and maybe questioning, but I think that's naive.
"It's a fantastic football club and there's a lot of potential here. We just find ourselves at the minute in a tricky spot, but we'll come out of it.
"But we do need to try and get better quality in because I think if we'd had a bit more quality at certain times today we would have had that little bit more to win the game and ultimately that's what we need to do.”
