King’s Lynn battle back from two goals down for a share of the spoils at Hereford in National League North
Hereford 2 King’s Lynn Town 2
King's Lynn Town displayed the battling qualities needed if they are to maintain their National League North status this season as they picked up a point at Hereford this afternoon.
The Linnets trailed 2-0 going into half-time at Edgar Street before turning it around to draw in the second half thanks to goals from Tommy Hughes and Cameron Hargreaves.
The final score was a repeat of the scoreline between the two sides on the opening day of the season.
“It was a tough game,” manager Adam Lakeland admitted after the game.
"First half we were miles off it and deservedly were behind. We had to have a lot of honesty at half-time, demand more of the players, and I felt second half we came out and showed tremendous resilience and grit and character.
“We rode our luck immensely at times and Paul Jones was outstanding, made two or three massive saves, but you never know in a game of football – 2-0 is a dangerous scoreline.
"If you don't get that third goal and kill a team off, you're always likely to get a chance, which weconverted.
“And then I think we sensed there might be something there for us today. At 2-1, Jonah made a couple of big saves again and we managed to pinch a point there at the end.
“It could be a massive point for us given our current league standing and what I just hope we learned from that game is that we can't afford to be like we were the first half.
"We were passive, we were too easy to play against, we didn't get anywhere near them and they just completely ran the game. I thought second half we were a lot more competitive.
"We competed right across the pitch a lot better. We weren't as passive as we were at times in that first half and we had a little bit more quality at the right times on the ball.
“We can't have too many repeats in the first half performance, we need to see more of that grit and resilience and character that we showed in the second half for 90 minutes going forward.”
Lynn handed a start to former Boston United and Scunthorpe United frontman Johnny Margetts while Quevin Castro - the club's second new arrival on Friday - came off the bench to make his debut.
After conceding twice in the opening 30 minutes, Lynn suffered another blow after losing defender Kyle Callan-McFadden to injury a few minutes later.
Lynn, who remain in the bottom four having played more goals than the four sides above them in the table, have two huge home games this week.
Manager Lakeland's former club Curzon Ashton are the visitors on Tuesday night before Chester then travel to the Walks on Saturday.
