National League North side King’s Lynn Town face a race against time heading into festive fixtures

King's Lynn Town are facing a race against time to save their National League North season with serious doubts continuing to surround the club’s future.

Linnets owner Stephen Cleeve is in discussions with various parties about a possible solution as he tries to find £300,000 to ensure the club can finish the current campaign.

Cleeve has been working tirelessly to resolve the perilous situation as Lynn head into the festive period.

Tomorrow the Linnets travel to Southport before welcoming Boston United to the Walks in an eagerly-anticipated fixture on Boxing Day (3pm).

The clash against the Pilgrims will see the return of the club's former management team of Ian Culverhouse, Paul Bastock and Joe Simpson.

The game brings problems of it's own following crowd trouble at last year's fixture between the two clubs on New Years Day.

Seven King's Lynn supporters and 10 Boston supporters appeared in court in February charged with a combination of pitch encroachment and public order offences.

In a bid to avoid a repeat of the scenes of last term, cash-strapped Lynn have had to take extra security measures costing in the region of £8,000.

An extra fence has been installed while Boston United will be bringing a number of their own stewards.

Linnets boss Adam Lakeland will be looking for his players to build on their clean sheet against Warrington last weekend when they travel to Southport tomorrow.

“I'm so pleased we've got a clean sheet finally because that's our first one, which is not good enough really," said Lakeland after the goalless draw at the Walks.

"I think it's become a little bit psychological where it's almost become expectant that we might just ship a goal in and I'm so pleased that we managed to get the clean sheet, particularly in a game like that where I think it's fair to say that there wasn't too much quality from either side

"But we've stayed switched on, we've kept our concentration right until the end. We've not made any errors, people have been honest and done the work for 90 plus minutes.

"Obviously we've not done enough to score and get three points, but what we have done is kept a clean sheet which is a massive positive and stop that run of defeats.

“Without it being the result we wanted, it's a game of certainly more positives than midweek, that's for sure.”
