King’s Lynn draw at Banbury United as National League North relegation battle hots up

It's getting extremely tight at the bottom of the National League North - and King's Lynn Town are still not home and dry in the battle to stay up after letting another lead slip at Banbury United this afternoon.

Jonathan Margetts registered his eighth goal in as many games to fire Lynn ahead on the stroke of half-time, but the hosts maintained their very slim survival hopes by netting through Ben Beresford in the 69th minute.

Just three points now separate seven teams at the bottom as Lynn head into home games against Chorley (Tuesday) and Peterborough Sports (Saturday) this week.

Linnets boss Adam Lakeland said: “I thought the first half in particular lacked any real quality - the only bit of quality really from either side was our goal.

“And then for second-half, we played very, very well for 20, 25 minutes, had a lot of possession, a lot of control in the game, a few half chances, a big penalty shout and just out of nowhere they've gone and nicked a goal, which is a poor goal for us to give away, right through the middle of the pitch.

“And from there the game just kind of petered out.

“So, frustrating to be in another winning position and not to get three points, but it's another point on the board and we've got to go again.

“That's football. We can't dwell too much on it. It is frustrating, but it is what it is and we've got to move on.”

Lynn sit 16th place in the table, but just two points ahead of Farsley Celtic, who are in the final relegation place.
