King's Lynn Town's title hopes suffer huge body blow with defeat in the National League North
King's Lynn Town 1 Farsley Celtic 2
The National League North title race took yet another twist as King's Lynn Town's suffered injury-time agony at The Walks.
Visiting Farsley Celtic became the first side to complete the double over the Linnets this season after the home side had bossed long periods of the second half.
Theo Williams broke Lynn hearts right at the death after Tommy Hughes had cancelled out Frank Mulhern's opener seven minutes into the second half.
The only consolation for Lynn is that title rivals AFC Fylde dropped points after being held to a 2-2 draw at Buxton and Tommy Widdrington's side now trail the Coasters – who have a game in hand – by a point at the top.
Boss Widdrington kept faith with the same side that started the 3-2 victory over Scarborough Athletic on Saturday.
The only changes came on the bench with both Theo Widdrington and goalkeeper Tommy Dixon-Hodge coming back into the squad.
Lynn had an early sight of goal as Josh Barrett thundered a free-kick into the arms of Max Dearnley in the opening few minutes.
The hosts were guilty of squandering possession in the middle of the park and were relieved to see a curling effort from Carlton Ubaezun came back off the post with Sam Blair well beaten.
Farsley took the lead midway through the first half as Kian Scales threaded the ball through to Frank Mulhern who brushed aside Tyler Denton before finishing past Blair.
Lynn were almost back on level terms four minutes later with Barrett's powerful effort being kept out by Dearnley.
Eleven minutes before the break, a deep cross from Oxlade-Chamberlain was headed behind for a corner with Gold Omotayo lurking at the back post - but in truth Lynn had looked lethargic in the first half.
The hosts changed it at the interval as Theo Widdrington replaced Kyle Callan-McFadden who looked to be struggling with a head injury picked up late in the first half.
It took Lynn just seven minutes of the second half to redress the balance.
A diagonal pass from Tyler Denton was flicked on by Omotayo for Hughes to net on the half volley.
The home side made their intentions clear by introducing Jordan Ponticelli for Ben Stephens on the hour mark.
And the Lynn substitute thought he had fired his side ahead less than a minute after coming onto the pitch, only for referee George Laflin to rule the goal out after a lengthy discussion with one of his assistants.
Lynn now smelt blood and a double block from visiting goalkeeper Dearnley – booked a couple of minutes later for timewasting – denied Ponticelli.
The home side were dealt another injury blow to a defender going into the final 15 minutes when Denton limped out of proceedings after chasing down a loose ball.
Widdrington swung his boot at a Clunan free-kick after the ball found its way to him just inside the box but didn't get enough on it to beat Dearnley.
The visitors grabbed the winner deep into stoppage time after Williams was allowed to run half the length of the pitch before seeing his shot squirm under the body of Blair.
