King's Lynn trip to Brackley Town in National League North postponed an hour before kick-off due to frozen pitch

King's Lynn Town's eagerly-anticipated trip to Brackley Town tonight has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The top-of-table clash in the National League North had passed a pre-match pitch inspection at St James Park earlier this afternoon.

But as temperatures continued to plummet below freezing in the hours leading up to the match, the match officials were left with little alternative other than to call the game off an hour before kick-off.

It left the team and many travelling supporters with a wasted journey.

Lynn were going into the game as the new league leaders following their 2-1 victory over Peterborough Sports on Saturday.

It is unlikely the fixture against the Saints will be played anytime before this side of March as Tommy Widdrington's side have midweek games scheduled right up until the end of February.

The only blank date they have in their diaries next month is on Tuesday, February 14, when Brackley Town are due to host Kidderminster Harriers.

Second-placed Darlington are not in action this evening, but fourth-placed AFC Fylde – the visitors to The Walks next Tuesday – are home against Buxton.
