King’s Lynn Town draw with league leaders Tamworth in National League North lunchtime clash on TNT Sports

King's Lynn Town extended their unbeaten run to 10 games by holding champions-elect Tamworth to a draw in front of the TNT Sports cameras this afternoon.

A deflected goal a minute into the second half handed the visitors the lead through Kyle Finn before Lynn’s Owen Devonport levelled with a deflected effort of his own in the final minute.

It was no more than Adam Lakeland’s side deserved at the Walks after giving an excellent account of themselves against the title-chasing Lambs.

There was one change to the Lynn side that won 2-0 at Bishop's Stortford in midweek with Ben Stephens coming back in for Tommy Hughes who dropped to the bench.

Visting Tamworth had a familiar face in their starting line-up with former Linnets midfielder Munashe Sundire, who left Norfolk last summer, starting for the Lambs.

The dangerous Margetts reminded the visitors of his capabilities in the opening exchanges. He chased down a hooked pass from Cameron Hargreaves but could not provide the finishing touch in the box before the ball was scrambled clear.

Tamworth's first half-chance saw Daniel Creaney slice wide of the target on the half-volley.

Perhaps the best chance of the half came on the half-hour mark as Hargreaves cut the ball back from the byline and Owen Devonport shot wide on the turn.

Visiting goalkeeper Jasbir Singh had to be quick out of his box to thwart Margetts following a long ball over the top as Lynn continued to acquit themselves well against the runaway leaders.

Margetts made a fine run to pick out Stephens in the box but the striker could not get a clear shot on goal while Lynn goalkeeper Paul Jones was called upon at the other end to save a deft header from Christopher Wren shortly after.

Lynn claims for a penalty after a high challenge on Margetts by Luke Fairlamb were waved away by referee Constatine Hatzidakis five minutes before the break.

A cruel piece of luck saw Lynn fall behind within a minute of the restart.

There looked little danger as Tamworth's Kyle Finn struck the ball from outside the box before it deflected off the leg of Josh Coulson and ended in the back of the net.

No sooner had they taken the lead, Tamworth - looking to extend their unbeaten sequence to 19 matches - were trying to slow the game down.

Midway through the second half, Kyle Callan-McFadden was denied by Daniel Creaney on the line following Coulson's header across the face of goal from a corner.

It was another example of why the visitors have recorded 23 clean sheets this campaign.

Ross Barrows fired into the body of Singh from long-range after some nice inter-play between him and Hargreaves as the hosts tried their best to find a way through a stubborn visiting rearguard.

Substitute Bartosz Cybulski saw his shot blocked in the box and Singh saved to his left from Margetts as the pressure continued to build on the Lambs.

Lynn’s second-biggest home crowd of the season were in raptures two minutes from time as Devonport’s shot took a big deflection through a crowd of players in the box to earn his side a deserved point.

King's Lynn Town (5-3-2): Jones; Barrows, McFadden, Taylor, Coulson, Crowe; Hargreaves, Morrison, Stephens (Cybulski 77); Devonport (Rogers 90), Margetts.
