West Norfolk Billiards League concludes four championships




The semi-finalists and finalists of the West Norfolk Billiards League gathered at Three Counties Cue-sports Academy to play their four championships to completion.

Richard Thorpe (3CA, Lynn) won the league open by defeating West Acre’s Mick Cooper, champion for the last two years, 252 (48)-166 in the final.

Earlier, Thorpe had beat Dean Bavister 167 (49)-137 in the semis, while Cooper, the new English over 60s champion, had beaten Mick Daws (West Acre) 375 (99, 74, 40)-97 in a high standard display by the cueman.

Jack Easter (Swaffham Cons) won the handicap event by beating Lee Waldron (Hunstanton US) 276 (65)-215 in the final. Easter had beaten Ben Harding (Holbeach US) 246-186, while Waldron beat Dave Brown (Lynn Maltings) 302-266 in his last-four game.

Easter, 22, produced a fine 65 break to clinch the title in great form.

The junior championship was retained by Nathan Boughen, 18, (3CA,Lynn) who defeated West Acre’s James Gornall 18, 206 (38)-155 (30) in a very high standard final.

Earlier, Boughen had recorded a 48 break when beating Alec Chalmers, from West Acre, 230-118 in the last four for the event’s highest break.

West Acre D (Alec Chalmers, Steven Chalmers and Matthew Boughen) won the team cup 2-0 (585-568) over Swaffham Cons A (Benn Elliott, Luke Reeve and Josh Reynolds).
