King's Lynn Town Ladies progress to next stage of League Cup
Lynn Ladies progressed to the next stage of the ERWFL League Cup competition with a 2-0 victory at Leigh Ramblers on Sunday.
Lynn made light of the long two-hour drive to Southend and started positively and strongly, taking the lead in the 10th minute.
A corner from Jodie Hopkins was cleared by the home defence to Tegan Wheeler. She played the ball back to Hopkins whose finish handed Lynn a deserved lead.
The home keeper redeemed herself with a stunning save to deny Tiff Forshaw as the Ladies continued to press.
Leigh threatened rarely on the break with Lynn continuing to stand firm and duly their second goal of the afternoon arrived with 10 first half minutes remaining.
Wheeler’s mazy run was stopped by an over-enthusiastic home challenge which resulted in the award of a free-kick.
Deva Rawlings set-piece was cleared by the Ramblers defence but only to Hopkins, whose 30-yard effort was spilled by the home shotstopper, allowing Forshaw a tap-in from close range.
The second half saw the home side dominate much of the possession but found the visiting defence in fine form, resulting in a clean sheet for Lynn and a 100 per cent record in the competition.
