King's Lynn Stars sign former Ipswich Witches rider
King’s Lynn have swooped to sign former Ipswich racer Cameron Heeps to replace Ty Proctor.
Proctor asked to be left out of the side on Tuesday after a string of low scores and wants time away from riding to try and put things right.
Heeps started the season with Lynn’s rivals but suffered a shoulder injury last month and the Suffolk outfit had were left with no choice but to make signings to ease their injury crisis.
Lynn bosses immediately made contact with Australian Heeps to plug the gap left by Proctor and he will take up his position in the side from July 1.
Said Heeps: “I was gutted to lose my spot at Ipswich but I’m so excited to fortunately be back in the Premiership with King’s Lynn.
“They’re a steady side now after making changes and I fit the bill for them so it’s spot on now.
“Hopefully I can improve the team and we can get plenty more wins for the fans.
“It was a short season anyway before Covid-19 but then we had to start later and now it’s a compact season with teams having to be ruthless because we’re all there to win trophies.”
Lynn, who are due to host league leaders Belle Vue tonight, are back in action at the Adrian Flux Arena next Thursday against Peterborough when Heeps will make his debut.
Boss Peter Scroeck said: “We know Cam is a good rider and we’re delighted to have secured his services so quickly after Ty’s decision.
“Hopefully he can help us get a win against Peterborough. It should be a great meeting because they are one of the form teams in the league right now and they have strength throughout the side.
“We need all the Lynn fans to come down and get right behind the team. It’s more important than ever to stay behind us.
“We know it’s been a tough season for us so far but hopefully we’ll get a good result against Peterborough.”
