West Norfolk Swimming Club’s Nathan Wells breaks 15-year-old record at the Norfolk Masters Championship Gala in Norwich
West Norfolk Swimming Club had 18 swimmers competing at the Norfolk Masters Championship Gala in Norwich.
Swimmers from Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire competed in age groups ranging from 18 to 78 during a non-stop gala in the 25m pool.
There was some fantastic swimming from WNSC members with lots of medals and personal best times.
Nathan Wells gained an East Region record in the 25 to 29 age group 100m individual medley - a record that had stood since 2010.
The gala was rounded off with the skins event which consisted of the top ten male and female swimmers of the 100m individual medley, who battled it out over 25m races every three minutes. The stroke for each race was pulled out of a hat and the losing swimmer from each race was dropped until you had a winner.
Five West Norfolk male swimmers lined up with three others, the club dominating the prestigious event. The Purple Army’s 50-year-old Phil Baxter was the oldest qualifier for the skins.
West Norfolk took the top five places with Wells winning ahead of Rhys Burrell and Sam Rose followed by Harvey Isle and Baxter.
During a brief break for presentations, three West Norfolk swimmers, Rose, Lucy Rodwell and Robert Addis were awarded their prestigious County colours gold awards in recognition for representing the county in excess of six times. These awards were presented by SE Norfolk president and WNSC secretary Lois Addis.
