Swaffham bowler claims six-for in friendly win
Matthew Brockman-Smith bagged six wickets for Swaffham CC who triumphed at home to Norwich Association of Malayalees in Saturday’s friendly.
Top scorer Chris Upton and wicketkeeper Liam Exley put on 98 for the second wicket while Chris Upton and George Upton added an unbroken partnership of 90.
Chris Upton, who played the anchor role with 79 from 121 balls, and Ben Mills each hit four fours.
Meanwhile, Liam Exley and George Upton (who hammered 38 not out off 35 balls) both hit three boundaries to set the visitors 218 to win as just two wickets fell.
Then Brockman-Smith returned great figures of 6.5-1-17-6 as Malayalees collapsed from 50-2 to 68-9.
Only a final-wicket stand of 64 restored some pride before Brockman-Smith finished the innings by trapping Malayalees top scorer Raymond Symon lbw to complete an 80-run win.
Scores: Swaffham 217-2 (40 overs: C Upton not out 79, B Mills 21, L Exley 48, G Upton no 38) beat Norwich Association of Malayalees 137 all out (34.5ov: Oli Wynne 1-31, Joe Friend 1-20, M Brockman-Smith 6-17, David Annakin 1-24, Tom Puckey 1-24) by 80 runs. Swaffham won the toss and elected to bat.
Thornham’s Jim Clarke starred with the ball during a six-wicket success at Castle Rising Seconds on Saturday.
Home captain Calum Crome-Russell was one of the wickets to fall to Clarke who grabbed 8-6-4-4 and sent the first three batsmen back to the pavilion at the David Lindley Memorial Field.
Ben Harris pouched four catches before completing a good all-round display by guiding Thornham home to their 100 target with plenty of time to spare in this friendly.
Karthik Sankar removed both away openers but Christopher ‘Alf’ Burgess top-scored with 34 and notched the bulk of the runs needed with Harris.
