Pelicans Hockey Club hosted its tournament on Saturday with all four youth squads coming in the top three.

There was some wonderful hockey on show with rebounding shots on goal, super runs up the wing, reverse stick hits and tackles that demonstrated great determination and skill.

The under 12 boys were fantastic and finished in first place, while the under 12 girls came second in an end-to-end final against Harleston Magpies.

Growing in confidence are the under 10 boy’s team who also came second in a real team effort.

The young and new U10’s girls team really began to get it together with many playing in their first hockey match and tournament. A well deserved third place resulted, conceding only one goal against eventual winners Norwich.

Pelicans U12 Girls results. Pool 1: Pelicans v Harleston 2 1-0 win (Pluck); Pelicans v Dragons 1 1-0 win (Pluck); Pelicans v Watton 6-0 win (Scott 2, Beales 2, Pluck, Moore). Playoff winner pool 1 v 2nd place pool 2: Pelicans v Norwich 2-0 win (Beales, Moore). Final: Pelicans v Harleston 0-2 loss.

Positions: 1st Harleston Magpies, 2nd Pelicans, 3rd Norwich Dragons, 4th Norwich City, 5th Magpies 2, 6th Dereham, 7th Watton, 8th Dragons 2. Junior training is Saturday mornings 8.45-10.15. New players welcome.

Every one of the 10 man U10 boys squad played their part, playing in a variety of positions and subbing on and off as requested.

Results: Game 1 vs. Dragons, lost 4-0. Game 2 vs. Norwich City, won 1-0 – a great goal from Joseph Pink. Game 3 vs. Dragons 2’s, won 3-0 – goals from Lucas Triffit, Oliver Turrell and Alistair Kerry. Game 4 vs. Watton, won 1-0 - Peli’s had all the play with another goal for Triffit. Game 5 vs. Harleston lost 1-0 – both teams had chances but Harleston scored at the end.
