CWA Lynn Fury 114

CWA Fury began the New Year campaign in style with an emphatic club record points haul in this National League Division Four encounter on Sunday afternoon.

Mindful of a sluggish start to 2014, Lynn Fury coach James Bamfield ensured his side were better prepared this time around with games over the break designed to retain match sharpness.

The Tauras had established a reputation as difficult opponents in the first half of the season and the teams came into the game level on points.

The early exchanges reflected these league positions with the score remaining tight at 17-15 towards the end of the opening period. However a triple from Rich Milbourne sparked a run of nine unanswered points which gave Fury a 26-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Fury extended their lead to 35-22 but the Tauras answered with a run of their own to reduce the deficit to five at 35-30.

That was as close as they got. Fury ran out the first half with a 20-5 surge which gave them a comfortable interval lead of 54-37.

The third quarter was one-way traffic as the Tauras challenge disintegrated.

Whilst they picked up fouls the Fury ran in 35 points whilst giving up only 13.

The final quarter was a more pedestrian affair. A Mindaugas Spukas free throw saw Fury reach the ton as they went on to reach a club record points haul.

Every Fury player contributed to a fine overall display. The team nature was reflected in the fact that six players reached double figures and all were on the score-sheet. Eivydas Aleska led the way with 22, Thomas Liberis and Giedrius Pakaliskis each finished with 19 points.

This excellent win leave Fury tied in second place alongside long-time adversaries Brentwood Fire and Cambridge Cats. These three are likely to contest the remaining play-off places behind undefeated Barking and Dagenham Thunder.

Fury has a break before their next game at Anglia Ruskin on January 31. Their next scheduled home match against the Fire has been re-arranged due to the unavailability of the Fury’s home venue.
