Downham kart racer Oliver Clarke had a series of solid top fourth finish results in his first international race in Essay, France, at the weekend.
Some 34 drivers picked from countries across the world met for the first round of the Academy Trophy. The 13-year-old, who has been selected to represent the UK by the MSA, finished the heats with a third and a second and then a fourth in the pre final.
He picked up a three-second penalty in the pre final so had to start the final in eighth place on the grid.
He skilfully moved his way up the field over the 21 laps to finish in fourth, and sits fourth in the points table.
The next round of the Academy Trophy is in June and the teams travel to Portugal with the final round in Sweden in September.
Clarke said: “I am very proud of my performance in my first international race.
“It was a great experience, I learnt so much and enjoyed meeting all the other drivers.
“Really looking forward to the next round in Portugal and hoping to improve on my results.”
