Teenager Oliver Clarke received his Super One British Champion trophy at the Autosport Show in Birmingham and again later that evening at the awards dinner presentation.
Oliver, who lives near Downham and won the title in Honda Cadet Kart racing in the final round in September, was delighted to finally be crowned champion. He received the title from Ginetta driver Mike Simpson, a racer who won four British Champion titles in his kart days.
Oliver said: “It was great to receive my award at the Autosport show, I got to see so many stands and talk to those who are racing as a profession which is something I hope to be able to achieve.
“It was a proud moment being given the trophy on the podium there and the evening awards meant all the class winners got together to celebrate.”
Oliver, who has turned 13 since his win, is now racing in the Junior X30 class. He is getting good results and is looking to get on the podium regularly. The class is faster than the cadets and he is racing those up to 17 years of age.
He is now in Keiran Crawley’s MSport kart team. Crawley coached Lewis Hamilton in his karting days and the team is working hard to get consistent results.
