Students from Norfolk Wado-Ryu Karate Club travelled to Shropshire for the annual Association training weekend.
Two of the students also graded for their black belts. After a morning warm up, at 4.30pm it was time for the black belt grading. Consultant gastroenterologist Dr Alan Wiles and student Maria Jones had been training very hard for the past 18 months.
After showing excellent skill in basic kicks, punches, blocking, striking and breaking techniques they then had to demonstrate Kata before ending the grading with sparring and tough bag work.
They were both successful so now Norfolk has a new 1st Dan, Dr Wiles and a new 2nd Dan, Jones.
Congratulations also to Lucy Grove from Walsingham on passing her yellow belt.
If you would like to learn traditional Japanese karate then come along to the club.
Training is every Tuesday evening at Fakenham Junior School. Juniors 8 to 15 years, class starts 6.30pm to 7.30 and seniors 16-plus, are 7.30pm to 9pm. For more information call Graham on 07766118236 or go to www.facebook.com/NorfolkKarate
