Fakenham Gallow indoor quartet find summer success on grass

Have your say

Fakenham’s Gallow Indoor Bowls Club’s Suzanne King is one of a quartet of players who has found rich success on grass this summer by winning three outdoor county titles.

The awesome foursome have scooped the pairs, triples and fours and thereby qualifying for the national finals at Leamington Spa later this summer.

King spends the summer months as a member of the Norwich Bowls Club.

King, together with Jackie Devitt, won the pairs. This duo were joined by international Rebecca Field in the triples and with the addition of another Gallow player, King’s daughter Harriett Segasby, triumphed in the fours.

The fours, played last of the bunch, completed the almost clean sweep of county titles – only the singles escaped the clutches of the four team-mates.

King said the final against Downham had been a see-saw match.

“We led by eight shots at the half-way mark.

“Downham then fought back and went ahead only for us to triumph over the final four ends.”

This is only the latest major success for both King and daughter, Segasby.

King and husband, well-known locally-based international Mervyn King, were part of a fours team that won the national indoors mixed fours in 2004 and they joined forces again to win the national mixed pairs in 2007.

Harriett Segasby and Rebecca Field are already this year’s outdoor under-25 English pairs champions and travel to Scotland to challenge the Scottish, Welsh and Irish champions for the British Isles championship.
