West Norfolk Junior Badminton player, Harry Wakefield proved he is a star for the future, winning a title at a national Badminton England tournament.

Eleven year-old Harry, from Feltwell, entered all three events in the Middlesex Silver grade tournament, winning gold and bronze medals.

In the singles event, with a large entry of 64 boys, Harry won all three games in the initial group stage to reach the top section of the knockout round, but was unable to progress any further.

In the boys’ doubles, Harry partnered Isum Arachchige from Bucks, and the pair also won their initial group to reach the semi-finals, where they faced the number 2 ranked pair in England and the number 2 seeds in the event.

Despite losing the match, they gave the top partnership a scare, with the final score of 8-11, 11-9, 8-11, earning the duo bronze medals.

However, it was in the mixed doubles that Harry won the gold medal, partnering Chloe Dennis from Suffolk.

They won all three matches in their group and battled through their semi-final winning by 11-5, 11-7 to reach the final, where they faced a partnership comprising the number 1 ranked player in the country in both boys and girls singles.

Both opposing players had been unbeaten in this age group all year. Harry and Chloe lost the first game 9-11, but rallied hard to win the second game in setting 12-10, then caused the upset of the tournament to win the deciding game by 11-7 to take the title.
