West Norfolk Junior Badminton player Harry Wakefield won a bronze medal at a national under 11 Badminton England tournament in Essex last weekend.

Harry was placed joint third and received his bronze medal from 2004 Olympic silver medallist, Nathan Robertson.

Despite a tough draw in the singles and the doubles, Harry, 10, from Feltwell came home with bronze in the boy’s singles event.

He was placed in a box with the number 3 seed and sure enough both players won two out of two matches to meet each other in the game to decide the winner of the box.

Harry was 14-11, game point down, but battled back to win the game 16-14.

The second game was also tight but Harry held his nerve to win it 15-12 and progress to the knock out stage.

He then faced the number 5 seed in the quarter final, but his good form continued and he won 15-11, 15-9 to reach the semi-final.

In the semi Harry unfortunately met the No.2 seed who proved to be just too strong for him, but he went down fighting, losing 15-6, 15-7.

Harry also played in the boys doubles, but unfortunately he and his partner were drawn in the same group as the number one seeds.

However, they won their first two matches, and were 10-all against the top seeds, but the pair proved too strong for them and they went down in two straight games.
