Following his semi-final success at the English Nationals, West Norfolk Junior Badminton player Harry Wakefield completed a county double at the under-11 championships.
Wakefield, 10, won both the singles and doubles titles after going into the event as number one seed following his performance at the English nationals.
The tournament was run as a straight knockout, with several players receiving a bye into the second round, including Feltwell’s Wakefield.
Two other West players, Cole Fowler Emmerson and David Flannigan, both from Downham, comfortably negotiated their first round matches to join Wakefield in the second round.
However, neither was able to progress any further, despite fighting hard against the number three and two seeds respectively.
Wakefield duly won his second round match, followed by wins in the quarter and semi-finals to face his regular doubles partner, Norwich-based Adithya Velu.
He won the first game relatively easily 21-13, but was pushed all the way in the second, before he managed to pull away by winning 21-19 to take the title.
Wakefield’s second title of the day came in the boys doubles. Downham’s Flannigan, partnering George le Bon from Norwich, did very well to win one match to reach the semis, and although they didn’t win they pushed the second seeds to 15-21 in the second end.
Wakefield and Velu received byes into the semi-finals, but were not unduly troubled, taking the match 21-5, 21-9 to face the second seeds in the final.
The top seeds kept up their good form and raced through the final 21-8, 21-9 to take the title.
