West Norfolk Junior Badminton player Harry Wakefield continued his successful season by winning a bronze medal at the under-13 Gold Star event in Milton Keynes.
Gold Star events are for the top 16 players in the country, and this event included top players from Scotland, Wales and also Denmark, which made his results even more impressive.
His bronze medal came in the boy’s doubles, where he played with Fred Robertson from Yorkshire. The boys won their first match 21-14, 21-12 to reach the semi-finals, where they played the top seeds, Jonathan Melgaard and Mike Vertergaard from Denmark.
Although the boys lost the match 10-21, 12-21, they were not outclassed by the strong opposition, and were pleased with their bronze medals.
In the mixed doubles, Harry played with his regular partner from Suffolk, Chloe Dennis.
The pair won their first round 21-5, 21-13 against a pair from Lincolnshire/Leicestershire, then another comfortable win 21-9, 21-8 in the second round saw them reach the quarter-finals.
But there they faced the number 3 seeds, a Danish pair and despite pushing the seeds in the second end, they lost 13-12, 18-21.
In the singles, Harry did very well to win his first two matches, including shocking the England number 4 player, but then faced the top seed, Magnus Hansen from Denmark where he lost by a creditable 13-21, 15-21.
