This Girl Can is the nationwide campaign from Sport England to get women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size and ability.

Alive Sports Development is responding by staging its next Beginners’ Running Course for Women in Hunstanton. Organised on behalf of Alive Leisure by Lynnsport Ladybirds, the course will start on Thursday, April 14 at 6.30pm with participants meeting at Alive Oasis.

It’s a six-week course and ladies will slowly progress by walking, jogging and then running around the streets of the town.

Course leader Bridget Plowright said: “Fun, fitness and friendship is our motto.

“No one ever gets left on their own, the course starts off very slowly so everyone can go at their own pace.

“Participants, many of whom have never run before, are always surprised at the progress they make at the end of the six weeks and usually a small group develops that carries on running afterwards.”

Sport England research reveals a huge difference in the number of men and women playing sport. And it’s not because females don’t want to get active. Millions of women are afraid to exercise because of fear of judgement.

Alive Leisure hopes that women in the Hunstanton area will respond and apply to come on the beginner’s course. The six-week course costs just £15 to join. Applications must be in by April 6.
