Heacham Manor Golf Club staged their first Parent and Junior Open competition plus their Junior Open.
Both events were generously sponsored by Ben Burgess, who provided superb prizes including golf bags and Vokey Wedges.
In the Parent and Junior Open, a competitive field headed out to play in the first competition of its kind on Heacham Manor’s 18-hole course. Playing foursomes format, all family members had to work together.
Scores were tight for the top positions. Kate and Sam Seecheran from Hallamshire Golf Club scored a steady 32 points to achieve third position. With a tied score of 34 points for the first two, a countback was required which pushed Vicky and Oliver Searle, Heacham Manor, into second place, seeing David and Victoria Mayfield from Heacham Manor and Kirby Muxloe Golf Club as victors.
David Mayfield commented: “It’s been a great day and a superb event! A big thank you to everyone involved and I look forward to seeing it grow year on year.”
The following day, the Junior Open – now in its fifth year – ran in two formats.
For the older and more experienced juniors an 18 hole stableford took place with an additional prize for the best gross score, and a 12-hole event also took place for the younger golfers with unofficial handicaps.
A superb score of 35 points was achieved by Sam Seecheran in the 12-hole. All competitors in this event received a goody bag for participation. The main Stableford event was a much tighter contest with Oliver Underhill-Smith from Barnham Broom pushing Josh Simpson from Lynn into third place on countback, both with 39 points.
The event winner with a solid 40 points was William Kibbler from Denver Golf Club. Heacham Manor’s home club member Warren Bates achieved the best gross score of the day shooting a gross 33 points.
Heacham Manor offers free membership to the son or daughter (under 18 years old) of any adult members.
