Gallow at Fakenham bag national trophy wins

Gallow Bowls Club, Fakenham, teams have been very busy at the start of their campaign to win a national trophy this season.

Two teams entered the Mason Trophy. Gallow Ladies ‘A’ team played Pentney. The home block, led by Beryl Graver had a brilliant score of 30-13 which offset the loss of the away block, skipped by Pam Whitehead 10-24 so Gallow won 40 shots to 37.

The second team were drawn against the Premier League Woodlands ‘A’ and lost heavily on both rinks but the score was not a true reflection of the games.

The ‘A’ team played Roundwood in the Yetton Trophy last Saturday. Another good result from the home blocks saw the team victorious.

Home blocks: Pam Frary, Daphne Ramm, Maureen Leverett, Louise Hannant won 25-17; Di Broom, Josie Wright, Phyl Jarvis, Beryl Graver won 31-15. Away blocks: Cheryl Lincoln, Irene Lambert, Mollie Bowyer, Pam Whitehead lost 13-25; Wendy Wilkinson, Sandra Burlingham, Pauline Frost, Coralie Bell lost 20-27. Overall score: Gallow 89 Roundwood 84.

The Egham Trophy, a mixed team competition was played against Dereham on Sunday. Although close for the first 10 ends, Gallow then pulled away and ended convincing winners, 92 shots to 62.

Home skips: Richard Mason won 25-13 beating Dean Rudling, Sam King drew 19 all against Julian Cook’s block. Away skips: Danny Cawthorne beat P Webster 25-18 and David Taney won 23-12 against J Newall.
