Ladies from Alive Lynnsport Monday morning group held their annual Christmas badminton tournament with 20 women taking part.

Coach, Janis Baker, organised the competition which involved two groups of five pairs, playing in a round robin format.

Each game was played up to 21 points and the top two from each group went through to the semi-finals.

In the first semi-final, Janet Atkins and Linda Watkinson beat Jane Cornwall and Sheila Stokes 21-16, and in the other Gillian Gerrard and Hazel Greenfield beat Val Route and Joy Barnes 21-16.

Atkins/Watkinson took an early lead in the final against Gerrard/Greenfield.

They were ahead by 11-4 at the change of ends, but Gerrard/Greenfield fought back to square the match at 18-all.

The last few points of the final were very exciting, but Atkins/Watkinson won by 21-18.

A collection for Tapping House was made and a total of £20 was raised.

The ladies group will return in the New Year on Monday at the normal time of 9.30am where Baker will welcome any new players.

Included in the cost of the ladies badminton is a complimentary tea/coffee afterwards in the bar area.
