Mid-Norfolk Sunday League Division Two

Grimston 114-8 beat

Welney 111-6 by two wickets

Grimston won a cliffhanger, which they needed to do to have a chance of avoiding relegation.

Welney Croft won the toss and some excellent bowling by Grimston meant the run rate was slow. From eight-over spells, Mark Tilbrook (0-14) bowled five maidens, Callum Gurbutt (1-13) three maidens and Scott Howard 2-37, plus Tom Wallace 7-2-14-0 and David Fysh 5-1-10-1.

Grimston started with a four off the first ball but an injury to one of their openers and good bowling gradually reduced the hosts to 77 for six, and when number three Tom Anderson was out for a good 19 the match was there to lose.

A hefty six from Richard Pegler helped ease some nerves but Grimston were down to number 10 with 17 still required.

A captain’s performance from Martin Redhead 10 not out supported by Gurbutt 11 no saw Grimston hobble over the line in a great team effort.
