Hunstanton set for annual tennis tournament

The UK’s largest tournament of its kind, the annual Pilch Intersport Hunstanton Lawn Tennis Tournament, returns this weekend.

Hunstanton Lawn Tennis Tournament, which started in 1920, runs from this Sunday to Saturday, August 22.

It is arguably the most popular grass tennis tournament in the world.

The organisers of the traditional tournament said: “We are overjoyed that Pilch from Jarrolds in Norwich are again sponsoring our tournament and will have a large presence this year.

“Experts from Wilson and Babalot will also be present throughout the week.”

Other trade stalls will be showcased, while Capital VIP will be holding two parties at Sussex Barn during Tennis Week.

The Racquet Ball will be on Wednesday for 11-13 year-olds and the Grand Slam on Thursday for 14-16’s.

The bar will be open every day from noon until about 8pm and will be located close to the competitors’ meeting area.

A new venture will see a “hog roast” in the bar marquee on Wednesday evening.

Numbers will be strictly limited.

Would all holders of trophies please ensure, if you are playing this year, to return your trophies to the secretary early in tennis week.
