Lynn’s King Edward VII Academy (KES) Community Tennis Centre held their second annual winter under 8s indoor tournament, the first of 2016, with a great turnout of 30 young players.
They came from all over West Norfolk including Burnham Market, Wisbech, Fakenham and many players from the home club at KES.
After some intense round robin opening rounds played across a total of five mini red courts the eight highest scoring players went on to play in a knockout competition. After these well fought matches the four semi-finalists were George Dickson, Elijah Cabales, Ikeena Okosi and Tom Lloyd.
This then led to a tight final between Cabales and Okosi and after many long rallies and intense points the eventual winner was Okosi, 10-6.
Spot medals were also awarded throughout the day to those showing great sportsmanship, and court etiquette.
KES head coach Ashley Swift was full of praise for all the children, commenting that the standard of play from all the players was very high, especially as some were playing in their first competition.
He said: “The all round enthusiastic spirit was fantastic to see. With all the matches counting towards the young players’ mini tennis rating, we hope that the success of this tournament is an indicator of what 2016 has in store for tennis in West Norfolk.”
KES would also like to thank all the umpires, volunteers and parents for supporting this annual event.
The next tournament will take place at Easter.
