About 30 Ryston Runners and associates took to the roads around Beachamwell on Sunday for the club’s Mad Hare 15, supported by an almost equal number of marshalls, refreshment providers and results checkers.
Groups set off at half-hour intervals to try to ensure a close finish. The main point of the establishment of the event was to provide runners with a course on which to test their form in the early days of their marathon build-ups, but not all involved had this focus.
Pete Johnson won the new Age Graded trophy, donated by Mick Ennis. Stew Robins, who ran to a PB by keeping pace with Johnson, won the “Fastest Old Ryston Man” category. Nicky Roger was first woman to finish, with Jo Isbill, just behind, claiming the “Fastest Ryston Old Woman” title.
There were two teams of three who ran the course as a relay, with Nic Bensley 28.41 Callum Stanforth 27.44 and Ben Collison 29.57 amassing a total time of 86.22, three minutes off the previous best; and Cath Duhig walked it, making it an event for all.
The threatened squally weather did not show up making conditions good for all, and the event was completed by midday.
