Pelicans Men 1st XI 7, Bourne Deeping 2

Pelicans moved above Bourne into third place with an emphatic win over their nearest rivals at Lynnsport on Saturday.

In doing so Pelicans made amends for their poor performance in the return fixture when they were thrashed 5-1.

After only 10 minutes this didn’t look likely as the hosts found themselves trailing to two goals.

However unlike Pelicans teams of old, instead of rolling over and expecting defeat, they bounced back to lead 3-2 at the break.

Simons scored first from a short corner, then Johnstone equalised soon afterwards after being set up by Kerry, before on the counter attack Lankfer finished beautifully in the bottom corner.

The second half was bossed by the home side as firstly Johnstone scored again from a slick short corner routine before he then completed his hat-trick after being played in by Walpole.

Lankfer made it 6-2 after being played in by Simons. Simons himself then completed the scoring late on after a fine counter attack saw Lankfer unselfishly square the ball for his strike parter.

Pelicans perhaps looked as good as they all season with Aldous carrying on his superb season in goal, Page looking solid with Major, Allsop and Henry looking good as well both defensively and going forward.

In midfield Dowers, Kerry, Walpole, the outstanding Frost – who covered every bit of the pitch and certainly had his best game for the 1st XI – Picton and Johnstone put in a real shift.

Pelicans entertain St. Ives in their final away game of the season tomorrow looking to secure third place.

Middleton Aggregates MoM was Henry Frost.
