Alive Lynnsport Monday morning Ladies Badminton group held their annual Christmas tournament, run by coach Janis Baker.

Some 22 ladies took part in the event, with partners drawn for on the day. They were put into two groups, playing a round robin format.

The clear winners of group A were Margaret Earl and Pat Judson, who went through to one semi-final. However, the runner-up position was much closer, with Marion Wilson and Joan Dawson and also Catherine Jay with Jane Cornwall tied, both having won two games each, but also scoring 74 points apiece.

So to decide who went through to the other semi-final it came down to points scored against them, and Wilson and Dawson had the least scored against them at 73 and Jay/Cornwall had 80. Group B winners were Janet Atkins and Shelia Stokes with runners-up Trish Knudsen and Gillian Gerrard.

In the first semi, Earl/Judson beat Knudsen/Gerrard 21-14. Atkins/Stokes beat Wilson/Dawson 21-13 in the other.

In the final Earl/Judson were always slightly ahead against Atkins/Stokes, and pulled away at the end to win by 21-13.

Victoria King from Alive Lynnsport presented the ladies with their trophies.

The ladies group will return in the New Year on Monday, January 4.

Everyone in the community is welcome to come along and have a go.

Refreshments are available in the upstairs bar after the session and are included in the cost.
