On Saturday at Redbridge Cycling Centre near Hainault, London, King’s Lynn Cycling Club rider James Senter claimed second place when he competed in the first East London Velo Presents Winter Series Race 1.

He was competing in The Hare (category 4ths only ).

He described his race as: “Weather conditions were wet and breezy. It started raining an hour before the race.

“It was still raining when I went and warmed up before the race, by this time I was already soaked.

“The rain had stopped by the start but the track was soaked with puddles at the bottom of the circuit.

“There were 35-plus riders competing. At the start I was nervous, got to the second bend and came off the track onto the muddy grass.

“I had to unclip to get back onto the circuit. By that time I was near the back but pushed on and chased the bunch.

“I caught the bunch up halfway round the first lap then sat in the bunch.

“On the second lap the bunch started to split into two and I was in the second bunch but pushed on hard and caught up to the first bunch and stayed with them.

“I then started to work my way up in the bunch of 15 riders.

“I realised I was a bit stronger on Hogs Hill so I pushed my way into the top five riders on the hill.

“I remained there on the last five laps moving up and down in the top five but I knew I was stronger on the hill and I waited for the last lap and pushed hard on the last hill and won the sprint to claim second place.

“The race was 45 minutes long, about 22.5mph average with a top speed of 36mph.”
